J. D. (John) Rawdon 1849-1922

J.D. Rawdon owned and operated the first mill in Carp Lake Village in 1884. Mr. Rawdon sold his mill in 1902. He was also a co-owner of a shingle Mill in the same area.  

Cheboygan Democrat, 25 Feb 1893: Rawdon & Joslin is the name of a firm engaged in the manufacture of shingles at the west end of Carp Lake, near the railroad station.

Cheboygan Democrat, 9 Apr 1898.:  It is rumored that J. D. Rawdon of Carp Lake station is about to sell out his interest here and go to Oden to run a big hotel there.

J.D. Purchased and operated the Atherton Inn in Oden, MI.

Petoskey Record, 25 May 1898: Mr. J. D. Rawdon owner of the “Atherton Inn” of Oden has changed its name and will hereafter be called “Rawdons”.

Petoskey Record, 4 Jun 1898: On Saturday, the “Atherton Inn” property at Oden changed hands: H. A. Bustoo deeded to Dart & Dart, and Dart & Dart deeded to J. D. Rawdon of Carp Lake, consideration six thousand dollars. Mr. Rawdon expects to have the house opened at the beginning of the resort season, and its management will be on different and more popular lines than those of its first proprietor. We wish him success in the undertaking.
