Col. N. M. Kellam purchased in 1896 the building that eventually became the Ponshewaing Hotel. Mr. Kellam opened the hotel in 1898 and ran the operation until 1915. Mr Kellum sold the business to Mr. and Mrs. Charles E Woodruff who operated it until 1952.
